Current Conditions: Overcast

Weekend Storm:

This a very difficult forecast cause of the type system this is. Here’s my Breakdown on first thoughts on this event.

Temperatures are marginal for most but looking at models the elevation game will still Play a role just not what it usually does cause of the low. So many will be above freezing but once heavy precipitation moves in it will bring cold air with it that’s aloft and cause the rain turn to snow. You will see the difference in my projected first thoughts total cause of temperature. There will be a surprise or two with this storm even outside of mountains and there will be disappointment as well. Also to note this why I don’t call winter over yet cause if ULL and such happen in our area. And I don’t think winter over yet especially the high country after this storm. Low To Mid 30’s for most but high country areas will see low 30’s to 20’s  range. This will be first wide spread Moderate to Major event for some. But do note these events you can’t trust fully so there’s still questions to be answered and realistically won’t know til we now cast. There looks to be a strong band that forms and if your under that you will see some good accumulation.

ETN Foothills 1-3” For Those locations like Erwin to the border locations. Away from border going towards Johnson city il say 1-2” for now.  This will change but want to see what tomorrow shows.

ETN High Country  4-6” under the strong band don’t be surprised double digits. This will change but want to see what tomorrow shows.

WNC Foothills different than ETN Foothills cause moisture availability. 2-4” but SW WNC like Franklin and Robinsonville maybe 1-2”. This will change but want to see what tomorrow shows.

WNC High Country 4-8” . Higher peaks and areas under band will probably see double digit snowfall. Blowing Rock to the border I think best chance at moderate totals. Balsams maybe jackpot. This will change but want to see what tomorrow shows.

Upstate SC/North GA wouldn’t rule out dusting to slushy 1” right now. That area the big question mark. This will be north of 85 the Oconee Greenville Pickens areas. This will change but want to see what tomorrow shows.

With elevation it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly how this will fold so we look back at history and if history tells us one thing is expect the unexpected that maybe big snow or none. Things will change as this is a revolving storm that’s headed our way.
