4500’ Yancey NC                                 2/28/2022 4:00pm  Nice chilly start to the day with a low of 23F this morning. We hit our high of 44F briefly before the sun started setting down behind the ridge line. Blue skies and a 5 mph breeze makes it very enjoyable outside to do whatever you would want to do in the high country. No rain chances til end of the weekend so enjoy the spring weather in the upper 40’s and low to mid 50’s.  After this week rain returns and the pattern just possibly will do some flip flopping. Hold those urges to plant cause we all know we will have cold temperatures chances especially for us high country folks til May. Great week to hike this week and I definitely plan on taking advantage of it.  Hope everyone has had a good rest of there Monday.  Twitter @secusc1993 Tik Tok @secbuck YouTube NC TN High Country WX

4500’ Yancey NC                                   2/27/2022   4:15 PM Todays high was 36f briefly after morning of rain/sleet/snow/freezing rain. 1.02 inches rain fell since yesterday afternoon. Since Monday over 5 inches and for month just below 9 inches.  Luckily temp’s risen  to 33F in early morning hrs cause if not the ice would be thick on top of what Ice we received last night. 30F currently with occasional flurries as there some moisture building up on the border areas. Spring like temperatures for next 7-10 days before maybe some cooler weather. That’s not a definite but we will watch for anything in 10-14 day range. For the next week highs in upper 40’s low 50’s with low’s in the 30’s. No rain in forecast til maybe next Sunday so a dry stretch to get yard work done before the spring time snows that occurs for us high country folks. Hope everyone has a good rest of there Sunday.  Twitter @secusc1993 TikTok @ secbuck YouTube NC/TN High Country W

4500’ Yancey NC                                    2/26/2022 7:45 PM Today we started out at 28F on this pretty eventful day. Started the morning around day break with some sleet/snow mix that accumulated lightly on elevated surfaces. Middle of the morning to lunch time we warmed up to 43F before some light rain came in that put 0.28 in the rain gauge. Now here comes the fun part as that rain came in the atmosphere cooled and we’re in a freezing rain and snow mix even as I’m typing this up. Ice has accumulated in trees and elevated surfaces since the temperature drop below freezing. Current temperatures 31F. Tonight temperatures will hang around freezing for the high country where some above 4K elevation can see dusting or so of snow. But this icing situation maybe the primary thing that happens. I’ve always said that if you can hear the ice in the wind on trees that means it’s a ice event.  Temperatures tomorrow won’t warm much. Mid 30’s the high. So

4500’ Yancey NC                                  2/25/2022 7:35PM 48F the high at midnight and temperatures fell as day went on and current temperature now is 30F. We got some good much needed rainfall 4.1 inches for the week. Really helped having high enough water levels to clean rivers and creeks but not too much to cause anything major.  This weekend we’re going to have a nice Saturday in the high country where it will be cool buy Saturday night into Sunday the system that could bring some rain and wintry weather. The wintry weather side for NC and TN high country will be elevation event. 3500’ + and I would say 4000’ + for any good accumulation unless your in the far NW corner Boone north where be little colder. Accumulation amounts we will get clearer look at those tomorrow also could bust for some. Temperatures look marginal so it’s a fine line. Once that moves out Sunday mid morning ish it will just be cold til our quick spring like rebound in t

4500’ Yancey NC                                  2/24/2022 8:20PM Today has been a off and on rain day. Temperatures started at 44F and got as high as 48F. Total rain today has exceeded 1.5inches and were closing in at on 4 inches for the week. We will have more rain in the morning hours but the big talk will be the temperatures dropping right after the rain. Also ETN side of the mountain in a wind advisory for overnight tonight with gust up to 45 mph til 8 am Friday. Will be cooler for weekend with chance of snow still hanging on for Sunday morning but it’s barely hanging on.  First main look for next week looks quite for now. Maybe can squeeze out few flakes mid week but models past couple days have backed off on that. Temperatures will be cool in mornings and mild in afternoon. And outside of that we have to wait til March 6 for any kind of weather news that could possibly happen.  Twitter @secusc1993 Tik Tok @secbuck YouTube NC TN High Country WX

4500’ Yancey NC                                  2/23/2022 8:20PM Rainy early morning produced over 1.5 inches since midnight. That’s 2.1inches of rain since Tuesday morning. Today high 51F that’s the first time since the new year we have gotten to 50F or higher. Temperatures will not fluctuate all that much until Friday morning where our high temperatures will be in the very early hours. Temperatures will feel more like winter this weekend with possibility of some winter weather Saturday night into Sunday morning. But nothing a definite with this weekend with models not being as consistent with snow chances as they were. But today could be the bad Wednesday trends so hopefully tomorrow will be better fingers crossed. We will see pattern where we will be warm one day and the next behind front can be some cold with possible snow. That’s just the time year we in. But we can get big storms in March and April just go back to the March 93 blizzard as just o

4500’ Yancey NC                                    2/22/2022  7:15 pm Hope everyone has had a good 2’s day. lol I know that was kinda corny I’m sorry about that.  Todays high was 49F and we had a low of 41F. On and off rain put 0.27 inches in the gauge today so far. As I’m typing there’s a good amount of rain about to reach the NC/TN border so that will add to todays total. We still have til Friday with rain chances to add to our totals. Other than that just good ole fashion rain til late weekend where there’s still the possibility of some snow late Saturday night into Sunday. Definitely some colder air coming for us then. A lot with that system is TBD but I will say the NW Flow on back side of that system I’m more confident on than main event as of now. Then a week from tomorrow we maybe looking at something else but we need to get lot closer for that. Hope everyone has a good rest of there night as we roll into Wednesday! Twitter       @secusc1993

4500’ Yancey NC                                        2/21/2022 What a beautiful day we started out at 31F and we ended at 48F. Pretty mild for late February but not all that unusual as we head toward the end of the month. Got some much needed property cleanup done today. Rain likely to  start sometime around midnight tonight and continue with chances all week. We are still keeping a eye on the Sunday-Monday time frame for possible winter weather that could affect the area. Amounts are unknown and the overall chance unknown still as were to far out.  For the week all rain is forecasted with no chance of winter weather. Except Friday behind all this rain there could be enough cold air for some flakes in the high country. Rain amounts will be in the 2-3 + inch range by it all comes to end Friday as it looks today. We need to keep eye on these streams and rivers but hopefully this can be spread out and not too many gully washers. Appreciate all the fee

4500’ Yancey NC Beautiful day on the border today. High of 39F. Snow from Friday the 18th  has now melted mostly except for the north facing slopes where there still some lingering snow cover. We will warm up thru mid week and into weekend before a cold shot enters late weekend. Also to mention could be some flooding rains in the valleys with rain Tuesday through Friday. We are officially in flip flop pattern season. But don’t be fooled by the spring like temperatures cause we will likely not get into a consistent warm pattern until sometime in May. We are currently at 63.6” of snowfall for the season here . Still have a ways to catch up to 81” that fell in the 2020-2021 season  but there’s still some time to catch that. Thankfully January was a great month for snow since December was really awful.  This my first blog ever so please give me feedback good and bad. I want to provide the best content for the readers  possible. A
