​                                 4500’ Yancey NC                                 3/11/2022 7:00PM Warm day today that will change quickly tonight. High today 50F after a low of 34F. Current temperature 43F with winds out of the SE. Overall  a beautiful day.   Now we get to the good stuff that will come shortly after midnight. Winter storm warning for the high country of NC with 5-7 inches and up to 10” especially for the favorable NW Flow locations. Winds will also be gusty 40 -  50 mph in the highest locations will be possible thru out the day tomorrow. Cold air will make its way in and temperatures will plummet through out Saturday. Lows will be in single digits by Sunday morning and windchills will be well below freezing. Also to note DOT will have hard time keeping up because there will be rain before the snow...

4500’ Yancey NC

                                                             4500’ Yancey NC Beautiful day on the border today. High of 39F. Snow from Friday the 18th  has now melted mostly except for the north facing slopes where there still some lingering snow cover. We will warm up thru mid week and into weekend before a cold shot enters late weekend. Also to mention could be some flooding rains in the valleys with rain Tuesday through Friday. We are officially in flip flop pattern season. But don’t be fooled by the spring like temperatures cause we will likely not get into a consistent warm pattern until sometime in May. We are currently at 63.6” of snowfall for the season here . Still have a ways to catch up to 81” that fell in the 2020-2021 season  but there’s still some time to catch that. 4500’ Yancey NC/High Country WX

​ 7/31/2022 6:30PM (updated 10:07PM) Current Conditions: light rain with breeze. Feels like a valley early fall evening.  Thank you all for the continued support! High Temperature 65F Current Temperature 62F  Low Temperature 58F Today Rainfall  1.22” Monthly Rainfall 14.20” May 12.92” Rainfall June 3.74” Rainfall  July so far 14.20” Rainfall  Total 30.86” Rainfall  since May 1  2/3 months with 12” or more rainfall! 9 straight days with some sort of rainfall! If you haven’t checked out snow recap for 4500’ Yancey it’s available in the blog page.   Forecast  Monday: High upper 60’s with low temperature upper 50’s. Scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Early thoughts on fall I believe things will be like last fall. Start early but hopefully no heavy rainfall like last fall where leaves wasn’t too good. But valleys and foothills had spectacular leaves. Things could play out the same. Still early but that’s the way I’m leaning right now....
