High Country WX Forecast

Friday-Sunday

Friday-  Going to be wild! Starting out mid to upper 30’s and sharp front moves thru in the early morning and rapidly falling to teens and yes single digits. Rain turns to snow as this happens. Snow will be accumulating on top of the grounds and roads. Roads and ground will have a flash freeze with this crash. Biggest threat outside of the very cold temperatures and windchills. Accumulation of snow along border in the high country will be pretty good as of now thinking. Winds will be whipping it. 40-50 mph winds plus. Highs will struggle to get in teens.

Saturday-  walking up with temps well below zero in the high country. Windchills depending on location-20 to -30 not out of the possibility. Snow showers will continue with NW Flow racking up more snow totals. Tapering off for most by afternoon.

Sunday- waking up again with temperatures below 0. Maybe some flurries in the early am. High will be in single digits but sun should shine later in day. Seems like a diamond dust kinda thing could happen Sunday. So if you see shiny things falling then that’s what that is.

Storm accumulation for Fri-Sun this is first thoughts. Valleys for ETN/WNC Dusting-2”. 3000’-4000’ 1-3” with higher amounts are favored NW Flow Areas. 4000’ on up 3-5”with isolated spots with little more. Places like MT Mitchell doesn’t do the best with NW Flow so maybe the higher peaks that’s farther off border doesn’t get as much as within couple miles of TN border in WNC side. Same goes to places for example Boone, Marshall, Marshill East will be lower totals probably. Drifting snow with high winds very likely. Things still revolving with forecast. But this is the general thinking from this winter storm coming. Travel will be greatly impacted in this area. Best thing to do is stay home and have a great white Christmas for the high country folks. Any changes il let you all know. Get last minute stuff done before Friday to prepare for extreme cold temperatures for the area. Eyes after this on mid week.

Update SC/

Friday Morning for the 85 north folks I can see where there could be flurries or light snow showers. Don’t see  this being accumulating on anything but skiff could happen. Temperatures and wind will be lot colder than the normal (cold snap) some like to call it. So wrap those pipes and spigots. Lows will be in teens thru weekend and maybe few surprises with lower temps. Saturday will be cold with highs in 20’s. Sunday about same as Saturday. Then eyes on mid week.
